Introduction
My media products (front cover, double page and contents) compared to pop rock magazines such as NME are obviously not going to be very good I tried and this is what I have come up with. NME is the main pop rock magazine, and it has the majority of sales around the pop rock region, so I thought the way I am going to get some sales is if I model my work on one of the most successful pop rock magazines.paragraph 1
In my research I decided that I needed to look at what my audience wanted, I decided to have my target audience set at 18-25 year olds, my reasoning for this is because I know that, that age group will like the style of magazine I have created. The genre I choose is pop rock, this is because it interested me and I wanted to look at what my magazine was going to turn into. I look at NME I decided that was the ‘norm’ of what pop rock magazines looked like, I knew that if I made mine look like that then I knew people would just go with the one they knew, I knew I had to make a different magazine which helps me achieve the aim of making money and also getting to grips with a wider audience.

For the second question I was asked how does my magazine resemble particular social groups? I decided it was going to be more male friendly than female friendly, but it would also be something that a female could read if they wanted to. My magazine was always going to resemble something that you would only read if you were into the pop-rock genre because I didn’t expect someone who didn’t like pop-rock to read. I didn’t really have a certain type of person I was going to aim it at, I had an idea of where I would have liked the magazine to be sold if it was being produced, I thought that I would want it sold in lots of little village news agents and all of the main supermarkets, this was because if they were in stores which lots of people went into then they could be brought by a wider range of people and this would improve the customer base of my magazine.

Supermarkets are my main type of place I would try and sell it because you get all types of ethnicities in there and I knew that if I successfully branded it so that lots of different ethnicities would read my magazine (the main aim for me selling my magazine is to get profit) and I would be able to get lots of money and I would be able to make lots of issues and keep the magazine running. The publisher I want to publish my magazine is, IPC media the reason why I want them to publish this is because they publish NME although they probably won’t want two magazines of the same genre they also won’t want to take the risk that my magazine ‘Backbeat’ does not out sell the formidable and amazing magazine ‘NME’, they just wouldn’t take that chance. Another company which might be interested in signing up to my magazine is Hearst company this company like to pick up some of the magazines which are up and coming, some examples of magazines which are with Hearst magazines are, car and driver, cosmopolitan, esquire and town and country.paragraph 4
The audience I chose to aim my magazine towards was 18 – 25 year old males; this decision was based on the general consumption that I wanted to make profit and lots of it. By having a set audience it allows you to know what content to include and helps you avoid unnecessary articles like adverts for pensions when you are trying to target a young male audience.paragraph 5
The way that I attracted my audience was by using lots of images, images is a good way of getting people attention it helps them to realise which is the best magazine to buy and which is the most entertaining, this will let me think which they want to buy and which they want to keep buying, direct competion is easy to come by with NME being the main competitor in this market. The type of language is used was semi-formal, I decided I needed to keep it kind of formal as some people who read it wont be 18-25 which is my target audience but they might be older and they might have am interest in my magazine. This made me think if I am going to attract people of the age group I am going to aim this at I needed to either place random articles aiming at all types of audience or I needed to put in adverts that will interest the people and that might leave a mark, another way you could grip your audience is by placing a cliff hanger in, this would make them want to by the magazine for a second day or week or month, i know it works for me.paragraph 6
The amount of programmes which are available to use is unbelievable, you can use things ranging from word and publisher, which are your basic tools to making a front cover, contents or double page, to record all of my work I use blogger, blogger is a site where u can write a blog about what your work is going to be about, it is a way of sorting out what goes into your coursework. When you are doing your coursework it is easier to use blogger, this allows you to present your work out on different pages and it makes it clear which sections is which. In some cases these pages make it easier for the marker to mark your work and then move on. Finally while I am doing my evaluation I will be using movie maker, by using movie make, I will be uploading everything I am saying onto a programme called audacity, this will then be an easy transfer onto movie maker which along with my pictures from through out my coursework and from my preliminary task will go to making my evaluation good enough to get a good grade.paragraph 7
The final section of my evaluation is to compare it to my preliminary task, which in mine and everyone else’s opinion was awful, I guess I made my first main mistake when I forgot to change the shape of the picture I kept it landscape and knowing a magazine why would you have it landscape it would look odd, in my opinion the progression I have made has been enormous to go from something looking like this to make the jump to something which looks like this in both my front cover and contents page is remarkable I didn’t think it was possible but I guess I was wrong, when I was doing my research for my preliminary task I thought that my main task was going to be as simple as it was but I was wrong all of the work I did in making my front cover, contents page and double page spread came from the other magazines I looked at and I then analysed further and used some of the same ideas for making my own magazine and all of the pages inside.
